3 Practices to Keep Yourself Motivated

Home / Uncategorized / 3 Practices to Keep Yourself Motivated

Achieving major life goals requires sustained motivation. You can’t realize your vision for life if you don’t remain focused.

Of course, maintaining a high degree of motivation can seem difficult at times. That’s why you should consider adopting these five motivation boosting practices. They’ll help you stay committed to your goals when you might feel your energy waning.

Boost Your Motivation with These 3 Practices

Keep a Vision Board

The documentary and book The Secret introduced many people to the concept of vision boards. A vision board is simply a poster (or a digital slideshow, if you’d prefer) featuring pictures that represent what you want to achieve in life. For instance, your vision board might include pictures of a check with a certain amount of money on it, your dream house, and your dream job.

The Secret suggested focusing on your vision board will help you magically attract your desires. That may not be the case. However, you don’t need to believe in the Law of Attraction to understand why a vision board can help you boost your motivation.

Quite simply, by looking at pictures of your goals every single day, you’ll remind yourself why you’ve been working so hard to achieve them. That makes staying focused on a daily basis much easier.

Measure Your Progress

Achieving major life goals takes time. People often abandon their goals because they get discouraged. When you work a long time to achieve something without reaching the finish line, you may assume it’s a lost cause.

Don’t let this mindset take over. Progress is incremental. Thus, you need to track it. By setting up a method of tracking your progress, you’ll remind yourself how far you’ve come, instead of constantly thinking about how you haven’t achieved your top goal yet.

The type of method you decide on will depend on the type of goal you’ve set. For instance, if you were simply working on a career project, you might be able to create a spreadsheet listing milestones. Every time you achieve one, you could mark it on the sheet. This provides a visual representation of your ongoing progress.

Spend Time with Motivated People

Many successful people often say “You are the average of your five closest friends.” In other words, if the five people with whom you spend most of your time are unmotivated, their lack of motivation will rub off on you.

On the other hand, if you make friends with energetic and successful people, you’ll be more likely to adopt their attitudes.

You need to spend time with those types. That’s not to say you need to abandon your current social group. You simply need to find ways to expand it. For instance, you could join an online forum or group for people with goals similar to yours. Reach out to a few members, and ask if anyone would like to regularly discuss (whether over the Internet or in person) their progress together.

Most importantly, don’t simply read about these motivation boosting tactics. You have to actually put them into practice. When you do, you’ll find staying motivated and pursuing your goals will come more naturally.
